looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV)
During one of my most challenging seasons, God asked me this question ‘David, what are you focusing on? Are you focusing on the... (situation at hand) or are you focusing on Me?
In that moment, I learnt this lesson ‘Energy Flows Where Attention Goes’. The moment I shifted my focus and put it on God, I received the energy, strength, hope and faith to press on. In the end I came out victorious.
You can only run the race of life by laying aside anything that hinders or cripples you from walking the path that God has chosen for you.
You do this by faith, looking unto Jesus Christ, (the supreme example of endurance), the author and finisher of your faith, in the sense that apart from Him, you can do nothing.
Every situation has ‘good’ in it. Whatever situation you’re in, choose to focus on the good aspect of it, and you will receive the energy and inner strength to press on and overcome. Change your focus.
Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!
