And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
Romans 8:28 (NLT)
In 2004, my wife was heavily pregnant, and we were preparing for the arrival of our first child. I was having a conversation with a friend who had been married for 5 years and already had a child. We were having a man-to-man chat when he said, “Prepare yourself for when the baby arrives because your wife’s attention will be divided; she won’t pay much attention to you as before, because of the baby.”
I took that statement seriously and kept that in mind when going through the antenatal classes with my wife. When our baby arrived, I cooperated more with my wife, and we overcame a phase that had the potential of being a tense period and a bumpy ride in our relationship. As a matter of fact, it made our relationship grow stronger.
From the conversation with my friend and the experience at the antenatal classes, I was prepared. I understood that the process of my wife not paying attention to me was part of the package that comes with the life-changing event of having a baby. God used that situation to make our marriage stronger.
