Let us make man in Our own Image, according to Our likeness…
Genesis 1:26-27 (NKJV)
The starting point for knowing your purpose is to know your identity: who you are. This is referred to as the ‘Identity Question’.
The identity of a person is what they know about themselves and how they see themselves. If a person is wealthy and they do not know they're wealthy, or they do not see themselves as being wealthy, their identity would be that of poverty.
When Moses sent 12 spies to the land of Canaan, 10 of them had a grasshopper identity. They said, "There were giants in the land”, and we were like grasshoppers in our own eyes” (Numbers 13:33). They had a defeated identity.
Every human experience we encounter is designed to either secure our identity or attempting to alter our identity. It takes the understanding of purpose, and belief in that purpose, to resist the plans of others to destroy that.
The number one question that circumstances will ask us is, "Who are you?" It is a precarious thing, to be asked a question about identity and purpose and to not have an answer. We need to be secure in our identity, to ensure that the devil does not use the weapon of deception on us.
